Hot Sauce and the UnderToad exhibit (Neilson Park Creative Centre)
Back in January/February my I curated and group exhibit at the Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke, Ontario. There were 9 artists participating. Here is a short documentary on that exhibit.
The title “Hot Sauce and the Under-Toad”
draws from jazz improvisation and John Irving’s
The World According to Garp, where the “Under-Toad” symbolizes the shadowy forces of fate and dread.
Walt, Garp’s son, misinterprets “undertow” as a lurking creature beneath the waves a metaphor
for life’s subconscious undercurrents.
This group exhibition brings together artists
from different generations to explore themes of landscape, community, subconscious fears, and the environment, reflecting on the state of the world today.
It delves into the shadowy world of dreams,
joys, anxieties, and fleeting moments—like the wind
and rain before a storm—offering perspectives
from various times and places.
Ultimately, this show asks: Why do we create art?
Is it driven by curiosity, necessity, or the desire to share
our experiences and awareness? As art comes alive
through its interaction with viewers,
we eagerly await your reflections and visit.
